Learning through play

Children will be given a chance to learn specific skills through the play activities provided.  These skills include learning shapes, colours, number sorting skills, manipulative skills, language development, increasing vocabulary and pre-reading and writing.  We also aim to increase your child’s awareness of the world around them; this is incorporated into the daily time-table and also during trips out, visits and regular discussions.

All activities are carefully planned and the timetable is carefully structured to include as wide a variety of learning situations as possible during each session, taking into account the age and ability of the children.

These will include:

  • Creative and tactile play, for example; painting, crayoning. Play dough, sand and water play, music, movement and playing instruments.

  • Make believe and imaginative play, for example; dressing up, role play, home corner, puppets, farm animals and play mobile.

  • Science, knowledge and understanding of the world, for example; growing plants, exploring environmental issues, learning the concepts of weight, measure, balance, time and shape.

  • Construction and puzzles, for example; jigsaws, shape sorters, stacking toys, activity centres, and Lego and building bricks.

  • Physical play, for example; tricycles, pedal cars, prams, push along toys, outside play and sports type equipment.
